What is Saline Infusion Sonohysterosalpingography?
- A sonohysterosalpingogram uses sterile saline and air, which is passed through the cervix into the uterus and visualized by transvaginal ultrasound. The test allows assessing the uterine lining, shape and texture, as well as the fallopian tubes.
What are the preparations for Sonohysterosalpingogram?
- There are no specific preparations required for this examination apart from having an empty bladder. The examination however is performed between Day 9 and Day 12 of your menstrual cycle and therefore it needs to be timed with your menstrual cycle.
How is Sonohysterosalpingogram done?
- A speculum will be inserted into the vagina to visualize the cervix. A thin tube is inserted into the cervix and a balloon on the tube is inflated to hold the tube in place. Saline solution is injected through a syringe into the uterus and fallopian tubes and visible on the ultrasound screen.
When will the results be released?
Ultrasound report will be available within minutes after your ultrasound procedure.
